Thinking About Building? Every custom home begins a little differently. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.
Earlier than you might think.
You don't need completed plans—or even a property—to begin a conversation with us. Involving a builder early allows construction considerations, design and budget to develop together and can help avoid costly changes later in the process.
No. We work with clients at different stages of the process.
If you're considering a property, we're happy to become involved before you purchase it. We can help evaluate the homesite from a builder's perspective and identify site conditions or other considerations that could affect what you can build and the overall project cost.
Absolutely. Comito Homes takes on select custom home projects on client-owned properties throughout New York and New Jersey.
Whether you already have architectural plans or are just beginning to think about the home, we can help determine the best path forward.
No.
If you already have an architect, we're happy to collaborate with them. If you don't, we can help assemble an experienced team suited to your project and introduce you to architects and other professionals we know and trust.
We believe involving the builder during design creates a stronger connection between architecture, constructability and budget.
There isn't a meaningful one-size-fits-all answer.
The cost of a custom home is influenced by its size and architecture, the property and required site work, structural and engineering requirements, materials, finishes and many other individual decisions.
Rather than relying on a generic cost-per-square-foot number, we work to understand the specific project and develop realistic costs based on the home you actually intend to build.
Every project is different, but construction of a custom home will typically take approximately 10–14 months, depending on the size and complexity of the home, site conditions, approvals, selections and other project-specific factors.
The work that happens before construction is equally important. Architecture, engineering, permitting and preconstruction all affect the overall project timeline, which is why we encourage clients to begin the conversation early.
As involved as you want to be.
A custom home should reflect the people who will live in it. Dylen works closely with clients throughout the design and selection process, providing guidance, coordinating details and helping keep decisions aligned with the overall vision, budget and schedule.
Our goal is to make the process enjoyable without leaving you to manage hundreds of decisions on your own.
Yes, although thoughtful planning before construction can significantly reduce the need for changes later.
When changes do arise, we review how they may affect cost, schedule and other aspects of the project before moving forward. Clear communication is important so clients can make informed decisions throughout construction.
Marc remains directly involved in the construction and oversight of every Comito Homes project, working with our trades, architects, engineers, vendors and other professionals throughout the build.
Dylen remains closely involved with the client experience, selections and coordination.
You aren't hiring Comito Homes and then being handed off to someone you've never met. Direct access to the principals of the company is an important part of the way we build.
We build custom homes throughout New York and New Jersey, with a particular focus on the greater Hudson Valley and surrounding communities.
If you're considering a project outside our typical building area, contact us. We're always happy to discuss the property and determine whether it may be a good fit.
Every property, home and client is different. The best way to determine what's possible is often simply to start a conversation. Tell us a little about what you're considering, and we'll take it from there.
